County Operations Task Force 10/29/14 meeting notes

From Beth Nathan via Civic Association Network: Personal notes & handouts from yesterday's OTF retreat are now posted on under "2014 Operations Task Force" with names starting with "FullMtg_Retreat_" .... My observations in brief:  The OTF had a facilitator for this session to try to whittle down which options were possibilities. She had a hard job, got them to whittle some, but they asked for more info on other things.  The agenda was broken up into 4 sections:

DeKalb Neighborhood Summit

Event Date and Time:
11/01/2014 - 8:00am - 12:30pm

From the county CEO's office: Get Connected DeKalb. Workshops, Exhibits, Curbside Consulting, Networking. Tucker High School, 5036 La Vista Road, Tucker, GA 30084.  Workshops include one on water bills and one on cityhood and annexation.

Constitutional Amendment II background

From a writer for the Shepherd Center Magazine who originally posted this comment to the Clairemont Great Lakes Neighborhood Association listserv. Reprinted with permission:  In November 1998, Georgia voters approved a constitutional amendment to create the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission for Georgians who had sustained traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. It is funded by a surcharge on DUI fines and provides grants to those injured to help defray the costs of transportation, home modifications, equipment and needed services.

DeKalb Delegation public meeting notes 10/22/14

From Beth Nathan via Civic Association Network: Last night's DeKalb delegation public meeting drew a good number of representatives and 1 senator, plus an audience that didn't overwhelm the Maloof but didn't look skimpy either.  There were more questions & statements (some "speechifying") than the two hour window could hold.  There were prickly moments especially between legislators, a fair amount of support for the Blueprints recommendations, and a wide variety of issues being raised with a fair amount of emphasis on whether or not the Druid Hills cluster was going to maintained within one city or not. My notes are attached, if you're interested.  BethN -- North Briarcliff area; parks activist; Blueprints activist
