Briarcliff/North Druid Hills Technical Advisory Committee

Kicks off first in a series of neighborhood update meetings The Technical Advisory Committee, a group of professional planners, engineers, and architects who reside within the Briarcliff/North Druid Hills study area, has announced a series of Quad Study update meetings. ("Quad" is shorthand for the "quadrant" of DeKalb County that has been the subject of an intensive planning process begun in March of last year and led by Alex Garvin of Garvin & Associates.)

Decatur Considers Annexing Suburban Plaza & Emory Commons

As reported on the GoDeKalb.com website and in the AJC, the city of Decatur will soon take up a discussion of whether or not to annex land between Church Street and Scott Boulevard, down to North Decatur Road. They will also be looking at annexing the rest of the area between Scott Boulevard and North Decatur, bounded by Clairmont Rd and Landover Dr. This will remove valuable commercial property from the DeKalb County tax roll and also remove DeKalb County from having any oversight over Selig's proposed redevelopment of Suburban Plaza into a mixed-used project.

Plans for the rebuilding of Avis Williams Library

The county is planning to tear down and completely rebuild the Avis Williams Library. It's a complete replacement facility. The square footage is to go from 9,335 sq. ft. to 18,000 sq. ft, with construction to begin this year and end in 2008. The library Web site has the bond referendum summary which lists this as one of the funded projects from the facilities plan: http://dekalblibrary.org/new/bond.htm
