DHHS Golf Fundraiser re-scheduled to 8/1/14

Updated 6/13/14: GOLF TOURNAMENT at LEGACY ON LANIER LAKE LANIER ISLANDS HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FRIDAY, AUGUST 1 2014.  We appolige for any inconvenience rescheduling may cause.  If you have registered for this event and cannot attend on the newly scheduled date, please contact Coach Callaway for a refund. If you choose to play in the tournament on the newly scheduled date and have already paid, your registration will be honored on August 1.

Druid Hills Charter Cluster Update

From Druid Hills Civic Association: Druid Hills Charter Cluster Update: The revised DHCC petition was resubmitted in April along with a request for the board to vote on it in May, reports Matt Lewis. Presently the DHCC hopes for a June vote. The petition was amended to reflect an August 2015 start date. If it is voted down again, a new petition must be developed and submitted after February 2015.

Preschool summer camp

From the assistant director, a local resident.  Summer At S.A.N.D. -- School At North Decatur UMC. 8 Weeks: June 2 – July 25.  9am – 1pm / Monday - Friday. Our Preschool Summer Camp at North Decatur United Methodist Church is open to 4, 5 and 6 year olds (rising PK, rising K, rising 1st). Children can sign up for any or all of the weeks offered. In addition, campers get to help plant and maintain our garden plots, learn about and participate in green practices like recycling and composting, and spend time outdoors in our new community garden.

Paper shredding to benefit ICS

From MANA resident Lisa Crowder: I am sponsoring a community shredding event at the International Community School (formerly Medlock Elementary) on Sunday, May 18th from 2-5p. The event is a fundraiser benefitting the science program at the school and a donation of $5 per box of documents shredded is requested. I'll post more details on the event closer to the time, but wanted to let everyone know that this event is scheduled, so please save up all your documents for shredding and bring them out to ICS on May 18th!

School Board Shrinks to 7

From state rep. Mike Jacobs: School Board Shrinks to 7, Election Problems Averted. First, an announcement:  Senator Fran Millar and I will host a town hall meeting on state and local issues next Monday, March 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Chamblee First United Methodist Church, 4147 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, between I-285 and Peachtree Blvd.  Then, an update:  One month ago, the school accrediting agency SACS took the DeKalb County School System off of probation, which is the status one step away from complete accreditation loss.  The system had been placed on probation approximately one year earlier for mismanagement, dysfunction and other shortcomings of the school board.  

Revised Fernbank school site plan

From the Fernbank PTA: On February 19, 2014, Dekalb County School District held a community meeting at the AMS location of Fernbank.  They presented a revised site plan for the new school.  Changes in this new plan are in direct response from requests made by the Fernbank School Council, Fernbank Foundation, Fernbank PTA and Community Members.
