Clairmont Heights Entry Sign Voting Results

As there was no clear winner from the choices(#2 led by only 1 vote), we will have a re-vote at the annual meeting. We also hope to have a couple of new designs to put into the mix taking into account suggestions from various residents. Thanks for all of the email votes and great suggestions. Here is info from the mfg's website regarding the sign materials: Q: What is HDU, or sign foam?

Comment on Signs

There has been a recent spate of folks with missing pets posting signs around the neighborhood regarding their pets. While I don't think anybody begrudges them this attempt to recover their pets, please take your neighborhood into account and remove any signs that have been up for more than 2 or 3 weeks. They get ratty and faded and can really make the area look trashy.

Comm. Rader's New Nightclub Ordinance

Commissioner Rader has proposed a new "nightclub" definition for the zoning code that will specifically allow the Board of Commissioners to approve or disapprove via permitting, of any establishment that wishes to sell alcohol past midnite. Existing clubs, bars and restaurants would not be affected. On the plus side, this gives the BoC some control where none existed before.

Emory Planning to Expand "Garage Majal"

Members of our CHCA board have reported that at recent meetings of various committees and planning groups at Emory, it was stated that Emory intends to expand the "Garage Majal" on the Clairmont Campus into the tree-save area between Clairmont Road and the existing deck. The reason given was to replace parking for healthcare workers that will be lost when the hospital complex is moved to the east side of Clifton Road. Besides the tree loss from this previously promised protected area, this could force a much larger portion of cut-through traffic INTO our neighborhood.

Executive Park Redevelopment Plans

This past week, the owners of the Executive Park office park at I-85 & N. Druid Hills Rd gave a presentation on their plans for redeveloping the site. Plans include a modified exit from northbound I-85 that curves around the existing SunTrust site and directly into Exec. Park; a 12-story hotel located behind the bank; moving Executive Park Drive away from the creek and putting in a PATH-like pedestrian way with increased plantings; a mix of retail and residential over retail in the center of the project with all parking underground; and several other major design elements.

PATH Trail Project Status

On April 7, the PATH Foundation, under contract to DeKalb County, began construction on phase one of the South Peachtree Creek Trail from Medlock Park to Mason Mill Park. The primary purpose of the trail, according to commissioner Jeff Rader, is to provide connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists. Phase one ends at the stone bridge over Burnt Fork Creek. Completion of phase one is estimated to take three months.

Gun Bill (HB 89) Information

The General Assembly passed House Bill 89, which authorizes the carrying of concealed firearms on public transit, in restaurants that serve alcohol, all parks, allows for firearms to be located anywhere in a vehicle, arms constables in courthouses, shortens the timeframe for Probate Judges to issue concealed weapons permits, and removes prohibitions on allowing firearms in employee parking lots unless the employer specifically objects. The final version of HB 89 has the effect of authorizing concealed carry permit holders to defend others in public places.

Desmond Drive sidewalk repair

CHCA board members contacted the county this last week when it became apparent that a section of the new sidewalk had lost its underlay due to subsidence. The county got the contractor on the site within a couple days and they fixed it. They also, at CHCA request, removed some heavy pieces of debris which had been removed from Melton Park but had not been picked up by the county after the county clean up day.

CHCA trail update

CHCA has drafted a detailed update of trail related news as of April 23.
