Mailbox vandalism in Sagamore Hills

Last Saturday night vandals smashed mailboxes along Fair Oaks Road in the Sagamore Hills neighborhood. One resident reported that this incident was the fourth such incident in twenty years. If anyone in our neighborhood has experienced such vandalism, please contact the police and also let us know. County water restored

DEKALB WATERSHED MANAGEMENT RESTORES WATER TO RESIDENTS DECATUR – DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management experienced a power outage at the Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant at approximately 6 a.m., causing residents in Northern and Central DeKalb County to experience water loss. County officials immediately began working with Georgia Power to address these concerns and were able to restore power and bring up water pressure in the system by 9:00 a.m.

Alert! New stop signs at Willivee/Scott

In preparation for the crossing of Willivee Drive by the new South Peachtree Creek multi-use trail, there are now stop signs on either side of the crossing on Willivee Drive at the bridge. There have been reports of people flying through them.

Reminder: Tuesday Meeting re. Clairmont Campus Parking Expansion

Emory will host a community meeting to discuss plans to redevelop Emory Healthcare facilities and expand the parking deck on the Clairmont campus to replace parking decks on Lowergate Drive. CHCA will be impacted by the additional traffic and Emory wants to hear our concerns and suggestions. As part of this process, Emory has initiated a traffic study of this area. CHCA/MANA Traffic Control Meeting #2

The next CHCA/MANA traffic control meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 7-9 p.m. at the North Decatur Presbyterian Church. The goal will be to consolidate a community consensus on a plan. Details to follow.

Thief on bike

We have received two reports over the weekend of a petty thief in our neighborhood riding a blue bike. He is described as a young 20ish african american male. He has been reported knocking on doors and, in one case, taking a pair of shoes from a garage on Desmond and, in another case, a weed whacker and blower on Ava Place. The police asked that anyone seeing this person to call them with information.

Google Maps now showing "street view" photos of our area

When you look at Google Maps for our area, you now have the option of seeing "street view" 360 degree photos from most of our streets. Medlock School If you click "More", you can see photos and videos taken in our area -- esp. at Emory -- and Wikipedia entries for nearby institutions or sites.

DeKalb County Candidates Hold Forum at Emory

A roundtable discussion featuring the candidates for the Office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DeKalb County and Board of Commissioners, Super District 6 will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at Glenn United Methodist Church (1660 North Decatur Road). Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the forum will start promptly at 7 p.m. Free parking will be available at the Fishburne parking deck. This forum will provide a unique opportunity for candidates to address issues that are important to the Clifton community.

Our district makes greatest use of 311 service

A recent report to the Board of Commissioners indicated that people in our district (District 2) were the heaviest users of 311. We accounted for 28% of calls among the five regular districts. Note that 311 now handles non-emergency police calls and code enforcement will be added later this year. Voter Registration Info

Emory announces new plans for Hospital

One side effect of the plan is the proposed expansion of the parking deck at Clairmont Campus to replace parking spaces lost to the new construction on the east side of Clifton Road. Missing Dog ... Found!

[Buddy has been found. He had been picked up by county animal control.] Our Gordon Setter, Buddy apparently jumped the fence and escaped from our backyard today. He is black & brown with long hair, approximately 55 lbs. and is wearing a red collar. If anyone has seen him, would you please let us know? Our cell numbers are: (404) 993-8145 (Jennifer) and (404) 993-8165 (Doug's). Buddy is very gentle and affectionate and is not at all aggressive.

Car break-in at Heritage Square

Last Thursday, a car window in Heritage Square was smashed and some items stolen from the vehicle. The common advice from police to help prevent such crime is not to leave valuables including cell phones, CDs, etc in your car in plain view. Don't hesitate to report suspicious activity to the police. The non-emergency number for DeKalb county police in our precinct is 404-294-2911.


Over the course of construction of the South Peachtree Creek Trail in the last two months, there have been frequent reports of substantial and costly vandalism of both materials and equipment, and now an officer of the Three Forks Heritage Alliance reports they have found a flat tire on their cars repeatedly over the same period. The CHCA board believes the overwhelming majority of residents in our neighborhood strongly opposes any and all vandalism, especially when it becomes a political tactic to sabotage our sense of safety and community.
