Notes from the December Annexation Update/ CHCA Community Meeting, 12-15-2014

CHCA: Notes from the December Annexation Update - CHCA Community Meeting, 12-15-2014

Residents of Clairmont Heights met on Monday, 12-15-2014, to receive updated information about neighborhood options related to annexation issues and to ask questions of elected officials and school system personnel who attended. Our goal was to provide our neighbors with a snapshot of the current state of affairs before the GA legislative session opens in January, 2015.

The attached presentation [see attachments below] reviewed the current state of affairs, after which we heard from our CHCA liaisons to each of the annexation or city-creation efforts that could potentially include Clairmont Heights: LaVista Hills, Decatur, and Atlanta. We hope to provide a summary of the Q&A session in the very near future.

LaVista Hills: CHCA is NOT on this map, consistent with our survey wishes. LVH also excludes Medlock Park.

Decatur: The mayor and council declined to review any petitions (including the CHCA petition) and plans to move ahead with its map. The Decatur map excludes our residential neighborhood but includes important commercial properties near us ("Area A") that could reasonably impact service access to and from Druid Hills. CHCA continues to monitor this situation.

Atlanta: Almost all parts of the CHCA area are on the map created by Together In Atlanta. Mayor Kasim Reed has indicated support. The plan requires significant challenges related to the restructuring of our local schools.

The CHCA Board encourages all residents to share their opinions with us and with your local elected officials.
