South Peachtree Creek Trail updateWork on the trail has been suspended while the county appeals a ruling by the superior court in favor of opponents who argued that the contractual and permitting procedures were improper. There is about 100 feet of trail as yet unfinished. The incomplete section lies in Mason Mill Park between the end of the concrete segment at the sewer cut and the unfinished part of the boardwalk. Many people, in the meantime, have been using the trail, navigating the gap on their own. It is possible now to walk on the trail from the Medlock Park parking lot on a concrete segment to the beginning of the boardwalk through wetlands then across Willivee Drive on a crosswalk between three stop signs and again on boardwalk to a bridge across Peachtree Creek then to more boardwalk and into Mason Mill Park. After navigating the gap, one can walk to the remaining segment that takes you on concrete from the sewer cut to the Burnt Fork Creek bridge. The Phase II plan calls for a connection to McConnell Drive at the DeKalb Tennis Center, possibly through a tunnel under the CSX tracks. More info is available at http://clairmontheights.org/PATH
