Mason Mill Park Native Plant Restoration Project

Event Date and Time:
12/15/2012 - 10:00am - 12:00pm

REMINDER:  We are set for the planting this Saturday on the trail at Mason Mill Park.  ABG volunteers and I will be there from 10 AM to 2 PM so you can join us anytime during that period.  Hopefully, the rain today will soften up the ground for planting and give the plants a better start.  Matt from ABG will take care of watering the plants after installation.  While we’re there, I’ll share with you the studies that were done in the park by Georgia Tech biology students.  The presentations they did for us last week about the studies and the results were very entertaining.  See you there, Thanks, Dave

From Dave Butler, local resident and county Greenspace Manager, re: his joint project with the Atlanta Botanical Garden to restore native plants to the hillside beside the South Peachtree Creek Trail boardwalk in Mason Mill Park : It’s finally time to plant.  We’ve removed most of the invasive plants on the slope at Mason Mill so we have scheduled the first planting date for Saturday December 15.  Expecting cold weather, we will start at 10 AM and finish up around noon.  Please bring shovels and/or hand trowels for planting, but we will provide tools for those without them.  We will be at the usual location along the boardwalk within Mason Mill Park. Take the trail from the intersection of Willivee Drive and Scott Circle into the park, and the restoration area is just past the steel bridge that crosses South Fork Peachtree Creek.

We’re working on signage for the restoration project that will be installed on or next to the boardwalk.  The signs may be ready by the workday.
