Held in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs' HomeSafe Georgia program, the D&E Group, DeKalb County, and Rep. Hank Johnson, this free event offers homeowners an opportunity to meet one on one with counselors to see if they qualify for HomeSafe Georgia. HomeSafe is designed to provide temporary assistance to Georgia homeowners who have suffered a substantial income loss due to involuntary unemployment or underemployment and who are able and willing to work, and/or a loan modification.

Court Watch Training

DeKalb County's Court Watch Training is sponsored by the Office of the DeKalb County Solicitor-General and the DeKalb County Police Department. The Court Watch goals include:


  • Educating the community about how the court system works;
  • Encouraging community members to attend and observe court hearings;
  • Having input in the criminal justice process, which increases accountability;
  • Representing the community's interest in the criminal justice system;
  • Enhancing awareness among judges and prosecutors about the personal impacts of being crime victims, so that these issues can be taken into consideration in case prioritization and sentencing; and
  • Developing better relationships between the courts, prosecutors, law enforcement and the community  


During the training, participants will have an opportunity to learn about and understand the important aspects of the criminal justice system in DeKalb County.  They will also have an opportunity to hear presentations from the Solicitor-General's office, DeKalb County Police Department, the Sheriff's Department, Superior and State Court Judges, Probation, and an active Court Watcher from a neighboring jurisdiction.

Compost Awareness Demonstration Event

This hands-on demonstration will include information on:


  • How to obtain, manage, and use an Outdoor Compost Bin 
  • How to grow your vegetables using compost in your soil and fertilize using "compost tea" 
  • The difference between Mulch and Compost, and information soil sampling 
  • Vermicomposting

Kensington Livable Center Initative (LCI) Public Kickoff Meeting
