Emory Village Update

From Alliance to Improve Emory Village:
1. Update on Emory Village Road Improvements and Roundabout

Georgia Power is completing its phase of roadwork in Emory Village, which includes the burial of utility wires in a new duct bank under the street. The new conduit should be in place by Nov. 1. Separately, the Emory Village roundabout and streetscape work is expected to be open to bid by contractors in November with construction starting in early spring 2010.

2. Burbanck Park Dedication of Phase One: Halloween Day, Saturday Oct. 31

Dedication of Phase One development of Burbanck Park is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31 (9-11 a.m.) at the park, located at the edge of Emory Village on the corner of Oxford and Clifton roads. Phase One changes include removing the Burbanck house foundation and adding benches, shrubs, a path, perennials and an entrance column. Drop by on the 31st to help plant additional perennials or just enjoy the serene green space, coffee, hot chocolate and Halloween treats.

3. Saba Destroyed in Fire: Update from Owner Shane Mixon

Saba Restaurant, a local favorite in Emory Village, burned after hours late Sunday evening, Sept. 23 in an electrical fire. No one was injured. Owner Shane Mixon said that the fire destroyed part of the restaurant but that he is hopeful that he will be able to rebuild and reopen by Jan. 1. Saba, which continues to operate from its Oakhurst location, will deliver lunch and dinner to its customers in the Emory/Druid Hills area. Catering is also available.
